D. Felipe Ugalde began his adventure in Haro in 1882 with the foundation of the then called Bodegas Felipe Ugalde, a family estate owned and managed by him and the origin of what Rioja Vega is today.

Rioja Vega was registered in the Official Brand Ledger In 1921. A successful name that has assured a long and prosperous trading history, both with domestic and international sales.

Bodegas Rioja Vega is purchased by Grupo Príncipe de Viana in 1983 with which Rioja Vega shares the same vision and values. The Spanish wine group also has vineyards and cellars in Navarra (Finca Albret and Príncipe de Viana), and in Castilla y León (Clunia).

Felipe Ugalde’s dream is still alive today at barely 10 kilometres from Logroño in the area called ‘Venta del Jalón’. Rioja Vega is developed according to the ‘chateaux’ concept with 70 hectares of vineyards surrounding the cellars. This is a privileged location for growing vines as they soils are poor with nutrients and an Atlantic climate which confers their wines with a distinguishing character.
